In The Flesh

As many of you know, my son Andy is home from Iraq. A long year, but he is now home. We had a family homecoming for him at his home in Dresden, Tennessee this past Friday. It was so good to be with him again and to be with family. At one point, I was standing beside him and put my hand on his shoulder. It felt so good to touch him and to see his smile and to know that he was safe. What a blessing to have him home now.

As I thought about the homecoming on the way back to Indiana, I considered how Jesus must have felt when he touched his creation. What was he thinking as he grew up in the home of Joseph and Mary? Did he ever just reach out and touch them. Did he glow inside when he touched them? The Creator and his creation. Touching. Reflection. Love. That is what I felt when I touched Andy.

Maybe that is why we read in the Gospels that Jesus often touched people. And maybe that is why they (the creation) wanted to touch him. See, there is nothing like the touch of family.

Parents, touch your kids.

Kids, touch your parents.

Church, God has touched you with His Spirit. He dwells in you.

Church, touch the world.

There is nothing better than the touch of family.

Sid
